Week 5 - An inspiring week

This was a very inspiring week! We have met several experts who gave us a lot of new insights and possible design directions. Besides, we made a start with planning our visit to the rural areas of Uganda, which will take place in December.

Meeting with Delft Global Initiative

On Wednesday morning Jozine and Mirte met Friso Vos de Wael, from Delft Global Initiative. This organisation is supporting students and research projects in the field of Global Development. We were happy to hear that our project fit their vision and they want to offer us their support. They offered not only founding, but also connections, exposure of our project and they organise some interesting talks and lectures. We are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation!

Ordering all information

On Thursday, we would finally meet the client! To prepare ourselves, we tried to organise all our thoughts. We began with a chaos of words, connections and interpretations. But in the end we brought it all together to three clear design directions to present to the client.

Safe & Secure travel training

In December, we will visit the rural areas of Uganda to do some user tests and to iterate and improve our design. The TU Delft organises a Safe & Secure travel training for all students who are going abroad. On Wednesday afternoon we participated in this training, given by Eileen Focke-Bakker and Adriaan Korevaar. Both have a lot of travel experience in developing countries and they gave us all the information we need to know to prepare ourselves for a safe trip!

Meeting with the company

On Thursday afternoon, we had our first meeting with the company. Timo Beentjes, the program manager of the Healthy Entrepreneurs will be our main contact within the company during this project. He gave us several new insights about the current approach of the Healthy Entrepreneurs in Uganda. They are hiring and educating many new entrepreneurs, to reach even more rural areas of the country. We shared contacts, scheduled a new appointment and discussed each others expectations.

Meeting PHD student Tope Agbana

On Friday, we had a lunch meeting with Tope. Tope used to live and work in Nigeria until he moved to the Netherlands to study at the TU Delft. Nowadays he is working as a PHD student on a project to develop a user friendly and reliable new method to do a malaria diagnosis. He has told us about his own experience in the field, about cultural differences and the respect African people have for someone with a higher status. Since we both share the same vision with our projects, we will definitely stay in contact!

Processing all the data

This week we received a lot of new information and it is time to process everything. We updated our wall and wrote down the most relevant problems we want to tackle.Based on the new insights, the mission and goals can be reformulated and our direction can be defined in more detail.

Coming soon...

Next week we will make our travel plans more concrete! We will get in contact with someone who is currently doing research in the field in Uganda for the Healthy Entrepreneur. Furthermore we will reformulate our goal for the project, based on all the new findings of this week.
